The virtual library of good practices
Evidence-based public health has commonly relied on findings from empirical studies or on research-based evidence. However, practice-based evidence derived from programmes implemented in real-life settings – i.e. good practices – is another source of evidence that can be used to inspire and guide public health programmes.
Since 2013, the WHO Regional Office for Europe has been collecting, from Member States, partners and communities, examples of good practice in the response to tuberculosis (TB), HIV and viral hepatitis epidemics, with the purpose of building compendiums of good practices. More than 260 good practices have been collected and reviewed, and this has led to the production of five compendiums of good practices that are available in both English and Russian.
To simplify, streamline and digitize the sharing of good practice experiences across the entire WHO European Region, the Joint Infectious Diseases (JID) Programme has developed this Virtual Library of good practices.
The platform consists of a digital repository of good practice narratives and an editing tool for good practice coordination and sharing between Member States, partners and communities, and the Regional Office.
Specific and/or open calls for collecting any good practice related to TB, HIV, viral hepatitis or cross-cutting issues will be displayed regularly on the website.
